The BBC has announced its lineup for the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest coverage following the dismissal of Scott Mills. Mills faced historical allegations of serious sexual offenses, leading to his departure from the broadcaster.
Scott Mills' Departure and Allegations
Scott Mills, 53, was terminated by the BBC last month after facing accusations of sexual offenses involving a teenage boy under 16. These alleged incidents occurred between 1997 and 2000, when Mills was in his mid-20s. He lost both his BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show position and his Eurovision hosting role, which he had held since 2011.
New Hosts Announced
The BBC has confirmed that Sara Cox, 51, will lead the semi-finals coverage on Radio 2 and BBC Sounds. Rylan Clark will host the television and iPlayer coverage, alongside Angela Scanlon. Graham Norton will return to BBC One for the live finale on Saturday, May 16.
Eurovision 2026 Details
The UK’s entry, LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER, will perform the song Eins, Zwei, Drei during the Grand Final. Graham Norton expressed his excitement, stating, “It feels really special to be back, gently guiding viewers through the Grand Final in this very momentous 70th anniversary year.”
Rylan Clark added, “It’s the 70th Eurovision Song Contest and the biggest show on the planet. Being part of anything this big is something younger me could never have imagined.” Angela Scanlon shared, “It feels like joining the greatest party on earth—equal parts thrilling and terrifying! I grew up watching the Eurovision Song Contest with my three sisters, making very serious (and wildly biased) scorecards from the couch, so to now be part of it—especially in its 70th year—is genuinely surreal.”
Digital Coverage and Previous Investigation
Former Drag Race UK winner Tia Kofi will present the BBC’s digital coverage. Mills was previously questioned by police in 2018 regarding the allegations, but the case was dropped in 2019 due to insufficient evidence. The BBC was reportedly aware of the allegations as early as 2017.
Support for Scott Mills
Sources close to Mills have described him as “the nicest man in showbiz” and expressed concern for his mental health. His husband, Sam, whom he married in 2024, is providing crucial support. BBC Director of Music Lorna Clarke announced Mills’ departure in an email, acknowledging the shock of the news.
In a statement, Mills confirmed his cooperation with the police investigation but did not directly address the allegations. He stated that the case was closed in 2019 due to insufficient evidence and requested privacy.
