Alex Jones, host of The One Show, is embarking on a significant renovation of her newly purchased Georgian mansion in Ascot, Berkshire. The project aims to transform the property into a dream family home.

New Home, Big Plans

Jones and her husband, Charlie Thomson, acquired the four-bedroom property in July 2024. She secured the purchase by writing a heartfelt letter to the previous owner, Penelope, explaining why the house would be perfect for her family. Penelope was moved by the letter and agreed to the sale.

A Home with History

The mansion, located in a prestigious area of Ascot, previously belonged to John Lennon and Ringo Starr. Detached properties in the area typically sell for around £2.4 million. The family, including children Teddy (9), Kit (6), and Annie (4), moved from West London seeking a quieter lifestyle.

Renovation Challenges & Timeline

Alex Jones described the current interior as “care home chic,” due to its previous elderly occupants. The couple plans a complete overhaul, including a single-storey extension for a large kitchen-diner overlooking the gardens.

Dated Interior & Extensive Work

The renovation will also include adding four new bedrooms upstairs and creating more open living space downstairs. The existing kitchen, untouched since 1976, features an antique fridge and a heated towel cupboard. The entire project is expected to take years, potentially decades, to complete.

'Strictly Come Dancing' & Funding the Reno

With Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman departing, Alex Jones is considered a frontrunner to host Strictly Come Dancing. A potential hosting role could help fund the extensive renovation work. The couple may temporarily reside in the property’s outbuilding during construction.

Alex Jones expressed excitement about the project and its positive impact on her family’s life.
