A significant milestone was reached today as ground was broken on a $40 million expansion project at Fox Run School in Opelika, Alabama.
Expansion to Address Growing Enrollment
Opelika City Schools began construction on May 1st, 2026, to expand Fox Run School, adding 31 classrooms and increasing the school’s capacity to 1,200 students. Currently, the school serves approximately 410 students across 28 classrooms.
Joint Investment in Education
The project is a joint investment by the city of Opelika and the Opelika City Schools system. The decision to move forward with the expansion was jointly approved in January by the Opelika City Council and the Opelika Board of Education.
Funding and Timeline
The $40 million cost will be shared equally between the city’s and the school system’s cash reserves. Construction is expected to take approximately 14 months, with a planned opening for the 2027-2028 school year.
Modernizing the Learning Environment
The expansion aims to create a modern, supportive learning environment for fifth and sixth-grade students. The new classrooms will be designed to foster collaboration, innovation, and academic excellence.
