Woman Sentenced to Life for Sister’s Murder
Nancy Pexton, aged 70, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 years for the murder of her sister, Jennifer Abbott Dauward, a 69-year-old film director. The sentencing took place at the Old Bailey in London.
Long-Held Jealousy Motivated the Crime
The court heard evidence detailing Pexton’s long-standing jealousy towards her more successful sibling. Pexton, who relied on state benefits, harbored resentment over Ms. Abbott’s possessions, including cars, houses, and designer clothes.
Disturbing Messages Revealed Premeditation
Prosecutors presented a trail of disturbing evidence, including text messages and handwritten notes, revealing Pexton’s escalating animosity and intent to harm her sister. In these messages, Pexton referred to Ms. Abbott as ‘Satan’ and stated, ‘Karma is coming for you.’
Brutal Attack and Aftermath
Pexton violently attacked Ms. Abbott, stabbing her in the neck. Ms. Abbott’s body was discovered decomposing in her Camden, north London flat. Pexton also stole Ms. Abbott’s Rolex watch and locked her corgi, Prince, in a bathroom for three days.
Victim Expressed Fears Before Death
Ms. Abbott had previously expressed fear for her safety to her nephew, stating that Pexton was ‘capable of anything.’ She recounted a lifetime of resentment from her sister.
Investigation and Sentencing
Initially, Pexton attempted to blame a local drug dealer for the murder, but evidence overwhelmingly pointed to her guilt. Judge Anuja Dhir KC described Pexton’s actions as ‘callous and cruel.’
Rolex Recovered, Corgi Found Alive
The stolen Rolex, a gift from Ms. Abbott’s son, was recovered from Pexton’s bag. Ms. Abbott’s corgi, Prince, was found distressed but alive after being locked in the kitchen.
Victim's Background
Jennifer Abbott Dauward, also known as Sarah Steinberg, was a respected film director, known for her work including the documentary ‘War Of The Gods.’ Her son, Brad Carlson, described a ‘bubbling’ resentment between his mother and aunt.
