Details of the Incident
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Romero allegedly shot Nafin following a dispute over his perception that she didn’t adequately acknowledge the severity of his back pain. The incident occurred at their residence on Texarkana Street, near the intersection of I-10 East and Freeport Street.
The 911 Call and Arrest
Romero reportedly contacted 911 and confessed to shooting his wife. Upon arrival, deputies secured the scene and found Romero near a weapon and Nafin with gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, Nafin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Children Present During Shooting
The couple’s three children – aged 13, 7, and 2 – were inside the home during the shooting. Fortunately, none of the children were physically injured. Sheriff Gonzalez stated the children hid during the shooting, potentially preventing further harm.
