A 33-year-old man, Derrick Guidry, has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault against a public servant following an incident involving an axe in San Antonio on Saturday morning.

Incident Details

The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) responded to a call at approximately 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Southeast Loop 410 access road and Rigsby Avenue. Officers found Guidry actively striking a crosswalk signal with an axe.

According to authorities, officers instructed Guidry to drop the weapon. He allegedly responded with aggressive movements towards the officers, prompting them to maintain a safe distance. One officer then deployed a Taser.

Arrest and Charges

Following the use of the Taser, Guidry dropped the axe and was taken into custody. A subsequent search revealed he was in possession of drug paraphernalia. He is now facing four counts of aggravated assault against a public servant, a first-degree felony.

Prior Legal Issues

Guidry was already facing a separate drug possession charge in Bexar County, dating back to January 2026. A scheduled court appearance on May 13 regarding this prior charge has been cancelled.

He is currently being held without bond at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. This suggests authorities consider him a flight risk or a danger to the community.

Ongoing Investigation

The SAPD has not released specific details about the drug paraphernalia or the exact nature of Guidry’s aggressive movements. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.

The incident underscores the risks faced by law enforcement. The SAPD remains committed to public safety and will continue to investigate and prosecute those who pose a threat.
