Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of Hollywood icon Rob Reiner, made another court appearance on Wednesday as he faces charges related to the stabbing deaths of his parents.

Court Appearance and Delays

Reiner appeared pale and anxious in the LA Superior Court before Judge Sam Ohta, dressed in a yellow jail uniform and blue pants with closely cropped hair. He is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of special circumstances involving multiple murders, and two counts of using a deadly weapon – a knife.

During the hearing, Reiner appeared confused when asked about delaying the case. After consulting with his public defender, Kimberly Greene, he agreed to reappear on September 15 for a preliminary hearing to examine the evidence.

Evidence and Investigation

Greene informed the court that she is still awaiting discovery evidence from prosecutors. Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Chong stated that autopsy reports on both victims are still pending. Reiner will remain in jail until the next hearing.

The Crime and Family Impact

Prosecutors allege that Nick Reiner killed his father and mother, Michele, at their $13.5 million home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, on December 14 of last year. The victims suffered multiple stab wounds before their son fled the scene.

Romy Reiner, Nick’s younger sister, reportedly discovered their parents’ bodies. The case has garnered significant attention due to the family’s prominence in Hollywood.

Death Penalty Consideration

LA District Attorney Nathan Hochman has stated the case is “death penalty eligible,” emphasizing the decision will be made after reviewing mitigating and aggravating circumstances, including input from the defense.

Brother's Grief

Nick’s older brother, Jake, shared his devastation in an essay on Substack. He described the loss as “too devastating to comprehend,” expressing grief over his parents missing future milestones.

Jake also expressed anger and sorrow over the violent nature of the deaths and his brother’s alleged involvement, referring to him only as “my brother.” He stated the tragedy has left him and Romy in constant anguish.
