Peel Regional Police have charged a 61-year-old Toronto man in connection with a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred in Mississauga on April 15th.

Fatal Collision on Derry Road

The incident took place at the intersection of Derry Road and Hurontario Street at approximately 3:45 a.m. Emergency services responded to reports of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

Details of the Incident

Upon arrival, first responders found a male victim critically injured after being hit by a dark-coloured SUV travelling westbound on Derry Road. The driver of the SUV fled the scene immediately after the impact.

A second vehicle subsequently struck the victim while he was lying on the roadway. The driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Suspect Identified and Arrested

Following an investigation by the Major Collision Bureau, Sergio Dacosta, 61, of Toronto, was identified as a suspect. Police confirmed on Monday that Dacosta is in custody and charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing death.

Evidence Seized

Investigators have located and seized the SUV believed to be involved in the initial collision. Forensic teams are currently processing the vehicle for evidence.

Police Appeal for Information

Peel Regional Police are continuing to appeal to the public for assistance. They are requesting anyone with information, dashcam footage, or security recordings from the area of Derry Road and Hurontario Street on April 15th to come forward.
