A Louisiana community is reeling after a tragic mass shooting claimed the lives of seven children and their cousin this past Sunday.

Horrific Act of Violence

The victims have been identified by the coroner as Jayla Elkins, 3, Shayla Elkins, 5, Kayla Pugh, 6, Layla Pugh, 7, Markaydon Pugh, 10, Sariahh Snow, 11, Khedarrion Snow, 6, and Braylon Snow, 5. They were fatally shot within their family home.

Police Pursuit and Suspect's Death

The suspect, identified as Elkins, died during a police pursuit in Bossier Parish. He exchanged gunfire with law enforcement officials before succumbing to his injuries.

Survivor and Injured Mothers

A 13-year-old boy escaped the shooting by jumping from the roof of the residence, sustaining broken bones. He is expected to physically recover, but faces significant psychological trauma.

The suspect’s wife, mother to several of the children, was found with a severe gunshot wound to her face and is in stable condition after emergency surgery. A second woman, believed to be a parent of some of the victims, remains in critical condition.

Community Reaction

Local resident Jacob Castleman described hearing gunfire and a rapid police response, creating a chaotic and terrifying scene. Neighbors were left trapped in their homes during the intense firefight.
