The Stampede Attraction
The incident took place at The Stampede, a popular dinner attraction in Pigeon Forge, also known as the home of Dollywood. The venue combines a four-course Southern meal with a show featuring music, horseback riding, and acrobatics.
History of The Stampede
Originally opened in 1988 as Dixie Stampede, the attraction was renamed in 2018. This change was prompted by concerns about the potentially offensive connotations of the word “Dixie” and its historical ties to the Confederacy. Dolly Parton, the owner, discussed the decision in 2020, emphasizing her commitment to inclusivity and avoiding offense.
Parton stated that addressing problematic language is a matter of common sense and respect. The shooting serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible firearm handling and the potential for tragedy.
