Arizona Wildcats Receive Hero's Send-Off to Final Four
Hundreds of enthusiastic fans filled the lawn outside McKale Center this morning to celebrate the Arizona Wildcats’ journey to the Final Four in Indianapolis. The University of Arizona Mall transformed into a vibrant Tucson block party, marking the team’s first Final Four appearance in a quarter-century.
A Community United in Red and Blue
The crowd included fans of all ages, from infants sporting Wildcats onesies to children waving handmade “Bear Down” signs, and long-time supporters who have waited since 2001 for this moment. Football head coach Brent Brennan and the volleyball team also joined the celebration, demonstrating widespread support for the basketball program.
Players Interact with Fans Before Departure
Players took time to sign autographs for excited fans before boarding the bus to Indianapolis. Jaden Bradley was even spotted signing his own poster, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
Coach Lloyd Emphasizes Focus Amidst Excitement
Head coach Tommy Lloyd described the week as a “business trip” while acknowledging the overwhelming joy and excitement from the Tucson community. “Yeah, the Final Four is an event, but it’s an event for the fans,” Lloyd said. “We’re going in with a businesslike approach… and we know winning that first game will be an incredible challenge.”
Recognizing the Importance of Community Support
Lloyd emphasized the significance of this achievement for the city of Tucson. “To get over that hurdle… I really felt a collective sense of joy and relief from the community,” he stated. He also expressed hope for continued strong fan support, mirroring the energy seen in San Jose.
“Our fans were awesome… they were contributors, not just there watching. That makes a massive difference,” Lloyd added. The Arizona Wildcats now head to Indianapolis, carrying the hopes of a city eager to see 25 years of anticipation culminate in a championship trophy.
