Midweek Tune-Up and Series Recap

Prior to heading west, West Virginia played an in-state rival in Huntington. They secured a decisive 3-0 victory against the Marshall Thundering Herd in their midweek matchup.

The subsequent series against Arizona State began with a loss in game one. However, the Mountaineers quickly rebounded, dominating game two with a 13-7 scoreline. They clinched the series victory on Sunday with a solid 9-5 win.

Key Player Performances

Several players delivered standout performances during the critical weekend series against the Sun Devils. Graduate senior Sean Smith was exceptional, hitting .500 for the series.

Smith’s contributions included a crucial go-ahead grand slam in the series finale. Sophomore Gavin Kelly also excelled, posting a .538 batting average, one home run, and five runs batted in against Arizona State.

On the mound, Redshirt junior Maxx Yehl delivered a masterful performance in game two, tossing seven innings to even the series. Furthermore, sophomore Chansen Cole recorded his best outing of the season in game three, pitching 5.1 innings and surrendering only one run.
