Warriors Face Short-Handed Loss to Spurs
The Golden State Warriors suffered a 127-113 defeat against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, but the game highlighted the resilience of one particular player. The Warriors entered the contest with only nine available players due to numerous injuries and absences.
Leons Plays Through Wrist Injury
Forward Malevy Leons played 29 minutes despite sustaining an injury to his right wrist at least a week prior to the game. Head coach Steve Kerr revealed the extent of Leons’ commitment after the loss.
Kerr Details Leons' Adaptability
Kerr recounted a recent instance demonstrating Leons’ willingness to adjust his game to compensate for the injury. “...We had a game the other night ... designed a play, and he said, ‘Coach, can we run it on the other side of the floor so I can make the pass with my left hand?’” Kerr explained.
Strategic Minutes in a Lost Game
With the Warriors significantly depleted, and facing a back-to-back schedule against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Kerr opted to limit the minutes of key players like Draymond Green and Brandin Podziemski as the game progressed. This created opportunities for players like Leons, Nate Williams, LJ Cryer, and Omer Yurtseven to gain valuable playing time.
Leons' Performance and Contract Status
Leons finished the game with five points, five assists, four rebounds, two steals, and two turnovers. He is currently on a two-year, two-way contract, and his performance is increasing the likelihood of a conversion to a standard contract before the playoffs.
