Warren Buffett has disclosed a significant shift in his relationship with fellow billionaire Bill Gates, confirming they have not spoken since the fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal intensified. This revelation follows the Justice Department's recent disclosure of millions of pages of documents concerning the late convicted pedophile's activities.
Buffett Details Silence Following Epstein File Release
Speaking on Tuesday, the 95-year-old "Oracle of Omaha" acknowledged Gates as a long-time friend. However, Buffett stated that communication has paused until the situation surrounding Epstein becomes clearer.
Buffett explained his reluctance to engage, noting, "I think until it gets clear up, it doesn’t make sense to do a lot of talking…I don’t want to be under oath." This indicates a desire to maintain distance amid the ongoing scrutiny.
Reflections on Jeffrey Epstein's Deception
Buffett also shared his astonishment regarding Jeffrey Epstein's ability to manipulate others successfully. He commented on Epstein's methods, stating, "It is astounding to me that anyone could be that successful as a con man."
He elaborated on Epstein's understanding of human vulnerabilities. Buffett observed, "Men are going to like sex…and some of them are going to like not paying taxes, and he figured out their weaknesses."
Gratitude for Avoiding Association
The legendary investor, who recently concluded his 60-year leadership of Berkshire Hathaway, expressed relief that he was never introduced to Epstein. Buffett mentioned being thankful to Gates for this omission.
"I got him to thank for not doing that," Buffett remarked. Despite this, he concluded that the surrounding circumstances cannot simply be ignored, adding, "But you can’t get away from what happened either."
