Hegseth Conducts Covert Visit to CENTCOM Operations
War Secretary Pete Hegseth recently disclosed that he undertook a clandestine trip to visit U.S. service members currently deployed in the Middle East as part of Operation Epic Fury.
The revelation came during a morning press briefing held alongside General Dan Caine, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Hegseth confirmed the visit occurred over the past weekend, though he withheld specific location details citing operational security concerns.
Witnessing Combat Readiness Firsthand
Hegseth shared his experience on the ground, noting his presence in the CENTCOM area of responsibility on Saturday for approximately half a day. He described the opportunity to meet the deployed forces as a profound honor.
During his visit, Hegseth observed the direct engagement of U.S. forces, specifically witnessing the successful interception of two Iranian missiles. He praised the professionalism displayed by the personnel.
Praise for Troop Competency and Morale
The War Secretary recounted observing a Private First Class confidently tracking an enemy missile trajectory for a room full of officers. "I witnessed sheer competency," Hegseth stated, emphasizing the focused environment as the two enemy missiles were successfully neutralized.
Furthermore, Hegseth interacted directly with aircrews preparing for missions. He donned a headset to speak with pilots preparing to launch strikes against Iranian targets.
Troops Requesting More Munitions
According to Hegseth, morale among the troops participating in Operation Epic Fury was notably high. He shared an anecdote illustrating their operational focus.
As evening approached, Hegseth spoke with a junior airman on the tarmac. When asked what the unit required, the airman reportedly responded with a smile, "More bombs, sir, and bigger bombs." Hegseth concluded by assuring them, "We will happily oblige."
