‘War Machine’ Sees Viewership Decline
Alan Ritchson’s action-packed sci-fi thriller, War Machine, premiered on Netflix on March 6th and quickly became a streaming sensation. The film has emerged as Netflix’s biggest hit of 2026 to date, achieving significant success in its initial weeks.
Impressive Viewership Numbers
As of the latest data, War Machine has garnered 111 million views and surpassed 200 million hours watched. This impressive performance positions the movie within striking distance of entering the top ten most-watched films in Netflix history.
Current Chart Position
However, the film’s momentum appears to be waning. Streaming data from FlixPatrol indicates that War Machine is gradually descending the Netflix top ten global chart, currently holding the fourth position.
Competition on the Charts
The top spots are currently occupied by The Immortal Man, a sequel to Cillian Murphy’s Peaky Blinders, in first place, followed by the Thai crime thriller The Red Line in second, and the third installment of the Indian crime drama Mardaani in third.
Critical Reception
While not considered groundbreaking, War Machine has been described as an entertaining experience. Critics have highlighted Alan Ritchson’s performance as a standout element of the 109-minute film.
Collider’s Review
Aidan Kelley of Collider noted: “War Machine does indeed struggle to stand out in a crowded subgenre of alien invasion movies, but it also does enough to likely satisfy action and sci-fi fans. There are glimmers of brilliance with Ritchson’s surprisingly nuanced performance in the lead role and at least one truly great action sequence, but just about every other aspect falls into “just fine” territory.”
Potential Sequel in Development?
Despite the lack of official confirmation, the possibility of a War Machine sequel is being discussed. Netflix is known for greenlighting sequels to successful films, and the movie’s ending leaves room for further exploration.
Director’s Interest
Writer and director Patrick Hughes expressed his enthusiasm for a potential continuation, stating, “It’s impossible not to, as a writer, to think about… I fell in love with the character of 81, and the universe of sort of everything he’s going through. So look, if that call comes in, then yes, I’m ready to pull the trigger.”
Whether a sequel will materialize remains to be seen. Viewers can watch War Machine on Netflix in the US and stay tuned to Collider for further updates.
