A vehicle collision at a Lao New Year parade in rural Louisiana resulted in multiple injuries on Saturday, prompting a large emergency response. The incident occurred in Broussard and New Iberia during the annual celebration.

Videos circulating on social media show numerous individuals on the ground at the annual celebration. Footage depicts firefighters working to free a person trapped under the vehicle, which ended up in a ditch alongside the parade route.
Injuries and Response
According to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, approximately 15 people sustained injuries, with some considered serious. Acadian Ambulance deployed 10 ambulances and a helicopter to the scene around 2:30 p.m. to assist the injured. Two patients were airlifted for further medical attention.

The driver of the vehicle was taken into police custody. Rebecca Melancon, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, stated that the preliminary investigation suggests this was not an intentional act.
