U.S. Forces Seize Over 13,000 Targets in 38‑Day Campaign Against Iran The U.S. and coalition forces executed more than 13,000 precise strikes across 38 days, deploying 500 aircraft and conducting heavy ordnance disposal during Operation Epic Fury, a response to Iranian attacks. Gen. Ken Wilsbach highlights the operation's scale, precision, and speed while outlining new defensive measures at forward bases. The United States has announced that its combined land, air, sea and cyber coalition successfully struck more than 13,000 military targets over a 38‑day period of combat in the Middle East, according to Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Ken Wilsbach. The strike package was part of Operation Epic Fury, which began on 28 February 2026 in response to a large‑scale Iranian attack on coalition forces in the Gulf and the south‑east of Israel. During the 38 days of action, some 500 aircraft flew nearly 10,000 sorties and maintained a daily mission tempo of over 250 flights. While these sorties performed precision attacks on Iranian air‑defence sites, command and control hubs and other strategic assets, Air Force ground units worked simultaneously on emergency repairs, repairing 48 runways and clearing more than 400 unexploded ordnance sites - more than 420 craft were handled by the ordnance disposal teams under fire. The force also endured at least 1,200 "Alarm Red" conditions generated by Iranian missile and drone strikes - a testimony to the intensity of the campaign. The campaign began with joint American and Israeli air strikes that destroyed a number of senior Iranian commanders and damaged key infrastructure in Tehran. In retaliation, Iranian forces launched sustained missile and drone barrages that targeted U.S. bases along the Gulf coast and in Jordan, depleting interceptor stocks and damaging facilities. The U.S. force suffered 18 dead and 824 wounded, while hostilities have cost thousands of Iranian soldiers and civilians. In a statement released on Monday at the Air, Space and Cyber Conference, Wilsbach said that "the scale, precision and speed of Operation Epic Fury set new standards for joint warfare." He called the 38‑day mobilisation a landmark event that would inform future operational planning across the Air Force and the Joint Force. To strengthen defensive posture at forward operating bases, Wilsbach also announced the launch of a new Point Defence Weapon System. The system will integrate kinetic interceptors and directed‑energy platforms, and a new point‑defence career field will be created to support its operation. The U.S. military will continue to conduct prisoner‑free, maritime, and convoy protection operations under alternative designations - such as "Project Freedom" - while the official name of the campaign remains Operation Epic Fury. Alongside the military effort in the Middle East, the U.S. Energy Department indicated that the Saudi energy pipeline that runs from the East Coast of the kingdom to the West Coast is expected to resume daily operations as of the week following the announcement. In other regional news, the Turkish government will test its first domestically‑built lunar spacecraft in preparation for a 2027 mission to the Moon. The operation will be studied extensively by the Defense Department to identify lessons learned and to refine future joint operational capabilities in the face of increasingly sophisticated defensive systems. The U.S. and its allies remain on high alert as conflict with Iran could widen or spill into neighboring states, and the military will keep refining its preparedness stance across multiple fronts.
