US Envoy Discusses Iran's 'Radical Actors' and Regional Stability U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Michael Waltz spoke on Fox News about Iran's internal political dynamics, distinguishing between radical elements seeking to export revolution and what he perceives as more rational actors influenced by clerical leadership. He contrasted Iran's regional stance with the modernization and prosperity of neighboring Gulf states, questioning the possibility of regional peace under the current Iranian regime. During a recent appearance on Fox News Channel’s America Reports, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Michael Waltz articulated a nuanced view of Iran’s political landscape. He identified the presence of radical elements within the Iranian government, whose primary objective, according to Waltz, is the propagation of their revolutionary ideology. However, Waltz also suggested that elements of rationality exist within the regime, albeit constrained by the influence of clerical leadership and the Ayatollahs. Co-host John Roberts drew a parallel between the current leadership in Iran and the sentiment expressed in The Who’s song Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss. Roberts questioned whether lasting peace and stability could be achieved in the Persian Gulf region as long as Iran, under its current leadership, remained an outlier, contrasting it with the modernization and progressive advancements seen in neighboring countries like Saudi Arabia. He posited that Iran’s continued adherence to its current path would likely lead to ongoing interference in regional affairs. Ambassador Waltz responded by reiterating his point about the radical actors dedicated to exporting revolution. He challenged the notion of Iran’s positive impact by asking for examples of countries that have benefited from Iran’s export of terrorism, citing Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Gaza as counterexamples. Despite acknowledging the presence of rational actors within the regime, Waltz emphasized their subservience to the clerical hierarchy. He then highlighted the significant economic growth and improved quality of life experienced by citizens in countries surrounding the Persian Gulf, including Dubai, Manama, Kuwait City, Riyadh, and Oman. Waltz concluded by suggesting that a strategy of containment might be employed to limit Iran’s options and influence
