United Airlines Adds TSA Wait Time Estimates to App
United Airlines has launched a new pilot program offering travelers estimated Transportation Security Administration (TSA) wait times. The feature is currently available at Newark Liberty International Airport and six other United hub airports across the United States.
Pilot Program Details
The new functionality is integrated directly into the United Airlines mobile app. It provides regular updates throughout the day, giving customers timely information about security line lengths. This allows passengers to better plan their arrival time at the airport.
Addressing Recent Government Shutdown Concerns
The rollout comes after TSA officers received overdue backpay on Monday following weeks of working without compensation during the partial government shutdown. Jason Birnbaum, United’s Chief Information Officer, acknowledged the situation, stating: “We appreciate the work and professionalism of our TSA agents, and while most began receiving back pay earlier this week, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security shutdown continues and people want to stay informed about expected security wait times at our airports.”
Enhanced Travel Planning for Customers
“Our customers rely on our mobile app for all their travel needs, and this new feature lets them know what to expect and better plan their trip,” Birnbaum added. The airline announced the program on Wednesday, aiming to provide a more predictable and less stressful airport experience.
