United Airlines Adds TSA Wait Time Estimates to App
United Airlines launched a new feature on Wednesday designed to improve the airport experience for its customers. The airline is now displaying estimated Transportation Security Administration (TSA) wait times directly within the United Airlines mobile app.
Pilot Program at Hub Airports
This initial rollout is a pilot program currently available at all of United’s hub airports across the United States. This includes Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, and San Francisco International Airport.
Providing Timely Information
The feature provides regular updates throughout the day, offering travelers timely information about security line wait times. United hopes this will allow passengers to better plan their arrival at the airport and travel with greater confidence.
Addressing Shutdown Concerns
Jason Birnbaum, United’s Chief Information Officer, explained the motivation behind the new tool. “We appreciate the work and professionalism of our TSA agents, and while most began receiving back pay earlier this week, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security shutdown continues and people want to stay informed about expected security wait times at our airports,” Birnbaum said.
He further added, “Our customers rely on our mobile app for all their travel needs, and this new feature lets them know what to expect and better plan their trip.”
How to Access the Feature
Travelers flying through a United hub airport can find the estimated wait times within the United Airlines mobile app. The airline stated the feature was available as of Wednesday.
