Uber Extends Electric Vehicle Incentives Nationwide
Uber has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) grant program to include eligible drivers across the entire United States. The ride-hailing company is offering a $4,000 incentive to drivers who transition to an electric car.
Program Details and Eligibility
The “Go Electric” grant is available to Uber drivers who achieve Platinum or Diamond status and complete 100 eligible rides by December 31, 2026. Applications for the grant are being processed starting April 16, 2024, and can be submitted through Uber’s website.
Addressing Financial Barriers
Uber stated the expansion comes at a time when the $7,500 federal tax credit for EV purchases is unavailable to many, and gasoline prices remain high. The company aims to make EV ownership more accessible for its drivers.
Additional Discounts and Partnerships
Beyond the $4,000 grant, Uber has partnered with Kia to offer exclusive discounts on new EVs. Drivers can receive a $1,000 discount on a new Kia Niro EV or EV6, and $1,500 on a new EV9 SUV.
TrueCar Partnership
Uber drivers also have access to a $1,000 discount on any new or used EV purchased through the online car marketplace TrueCar. This provides further financial benefits for those considering an electric vehicle.
Uber’s Commitment to Electrification
Andrew Cornelia, Global Head of Electrification & Sustainability at Uber, stated, “Uber’s transition to electric is being driven by thousands of drivers making the switch, as the economics of owning an EV continue to improve.” He added that Uber will continue to lower costs through partnerships and improve charging infrastructure.
Global EV Leadership
Uber currently reports being the world’s most widely available platform for zero-emission rides, with over 286,000 EVs on the app globally. Drivers are switching to EVs up to five times faster than the average driver in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
