Trump Announces Reflecting Pool Cleanup
Former President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that he is working to clean the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. He directly blamed the Biden administration for what he described as a lack of maintenance at the landmark.
Truth Social Post Details Initiative
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he is collaborating with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum on the cleanup. This initiative is the latest in a series of beautification projects being pursued by Trump.
Trump's Statement on the Pool's Condition
“Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and I are working on fixing the absolutely filthy Reflecting Pool between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument,” Trump wrote. He continued, “This work was supposed to be done by the Biden Administration, but Sleepy Joe doesn’t know what ‘CLEAN’ or proper maintenance is — The President and Secretary do!”
Burgum Confirms Collaboration
Secretary Burgum confirmed the project on X, formerly known as Twitter. He praised Trump’s ability to “get things done.”
Burgum's X Post
“Unlike the Biden administration, @POTUS knows how to get things done! @Interior is working to Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful! Proud to work with you on this important task, Mr. President,” Burgum posted, accompanied by images of himself at the pool.
Past Maintenance Efforts
In 2022, the National Parks Service (NPS) shared a video on X showcasing a “Super-Scrubber” and vacuum cleaning the pool area. The post explained that the team was removing a year’s worth of trash, algae, and goose droppings.
Regular Pool Maintenance
The Reflecting Pool is drained and cleaned annually before being refilled with water. Fox News Digital has contacted the NPS and Interior Department for comment.
Separate Legal Ruling
On the same day, a federal judge ordered Trump to halt construction of his planned White House ballroom project. This ruling followed a lawsuit filed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which argued the project required congressional approval.
