Former President Donald Trump announced that a strike resulted in the “termination” of several Iranian military leaders, significantly escalating tensions in an already volatile Middle East.

This announcement came after reports of an Israeli strike that killed Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, and several other Hezbollah commanders. The strike occurred in southern Beirut, prompting condemnation and protests in Iran.
Protests in Tehran
On September 28, 2024, protests erupted in Tehran, Iran, with citizens displaying images of Qasem Soleimani, the former commander of the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds force, who was assassinated by the United States in 2020. These demonstrations were a direct response to the Israeli airstrike in Lebanon.

President Trump took to his Truth Social platform to declare that “many of Iran’s Military Leaders, who have led them poorly and unwisely, are terminated.” He also warned that “time was running out” for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, threatening further action if the waterway remained closed.
In a separate post, Trump announced the rescue of a U.S. service member who had been missing after Iran shot down a fighter jet.
