Trump Reveals Susceptibility to Flattery

President Donald Trump made a candid admission about his personality during the White House Easter lunch held on Wednesday in the East Room. The event was attended by members of his Cabinet and national faith leaders.

Remarks on Iran and Personal Relationships

During his speech, Trump highlighted his actions regarding Iran, asserting he achieved regime change “like nobody thought was possible” through “sheer force of personality.” He then transitioned to praising an attendee before discussing his own inclination towards compliments.

“I Am Seduced”

“We’re not supposed to be seduced that way, right? But I am,” Trump stated. He further elaborated, “When somebody’s nice to me, I love that person.” He added, “Even if they’re bad people, I couldn’t care less, I’ll fight ‘til the end for them.”

Past Relationships with Controversial Leaders

Trump has previously fostered relationships with leaders often described as controversial, seemingly based on flattery. He cited his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as examples.

Kim Jong Un and Past Admissions

“I have very good relationships with Kim Jong Un, from North Korea,” Trump told reporters in August. He defended the relationship, stating, “A lot of people would say that’s terrible, no, it’s good.” During his first term, Trump admitted to being almost envious of the fear Kim Jong Un inspires in his people, but later described him as “very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless.”

Relationship with New York City Mayor Mamdani

Trump also referenced his unusual rapport with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, despite their differing political views. He downplayed criticism of Mamdani, stating, “I’ve been called much worse than a despot,” and “It’s not that insulting.”

Comments on Mamdani’s Appearance

Trump sought out Mamdani in the audience, commenting on his weight loss. “He’s lost weight. He got a little thinner,” Trump observed. He then jokingly remarked, “I’m looking for a heavy-set gentleman,” before praising Mamdani’s work, stating, “He’s doing a great job.”
