'90s Star Chilli Confronted with Evidence of Right-Wing Support
Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, a prominent member of the iconic 1990s R&B group TLC, is facing public scrutiny regarding her political leanings. This comes after she recently declared publicly that she is "not MAGA," despite evidence suggesting years of support for right-wing figures and causes.
The controversy intensified following reports that Thomas had reposted a conspiratorial message concerning former first lady Michelle Obama. This incident prompted further investigation into her past political activities, including alleged financial contributions to Donald Trump and associated MAGA efforts.
Chilli’s Social Media Activity Under the Microscope
New reports indicate that Thomas, 55, has been actively engaging with content from Republican Florida Representative Byron Donalds, a figure known for circulating MAGA talking points, dating back to early 2024.
Thomas reportedly showed support for Donalds’ posts by frequently using the "like" function on his content. This included posts that praised Donald Trump and characterized Democrats as the root cause of current political volatility.
Specific instances of engagement involved liking Donalds’ criticisms directed at former Vice President Kamala Harris, as well as posts celebrating Trump’s immigration enforcement actions. Furthermore, she liked content from Donalds arguing against what he perceives as a "pro-trans agenda in America." Before the recent controversy, Thomas was also observed following conservative personalities like Donald Trump Jr. and commentator Tomi Lahren.
The Apology and Subsequent Rebuttal
In response to the initial backlash over donations, Thomas released an apology video. She claimed that any uncovered donations to right-wing entities were unintentional, stating she failed to "read the fine print."
Thomas insisted in her video that she believed her funds were supporting causes focused on veterans and combating human trafficking. She firmly stated, “I am not MAGA,” in an effort to distance herself from the political movement.
However, Thomas did not provide clarification regarding a specific donation made to Donald Trump’s fundraising committee. She attempted to sever ties with the right by asserting, “I do not support any of the many policies that are causing great harm to the American people.”
Upcoming Tour Amid Controversy
TLC, the Grammy-winning group known for their four awards, is scheduled to embark on a joint tour this summer and fall. They will be joined by fellow female groups Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue for the performances.
