Timi Dre, an independent artist hailing from Brooklyn, is captivating audiences with a sound that seamlessly blends Afrobeats, Konpa, and R&B. His music embodies the energy and diversity of New York City – global, rhythmic, and undeniably alive.
From Gospel Roots to a Unique Sound
Timi Dre’s musical journey began in the church, where he developed a strong foundation playing multiple instruments. “Being a gospel kid, I grew up in New Church, playing multiple instruments. I just fell in love with music naturally,” he explains. This early experience instilled a richness and intentionality in his creations, balancing rhythm with genuine emotion.
A Reflection of New York City’s Culture
Growing up in Brooklyn exposed Timi Dre to a constant exchange of cultures. “Growing up in New York City, you’re exposed to different cultures. I grew up on a block where they could be playing dancehall today and tomorrow they’re playing R&B,” he shares. He describes his music as “a concussion of everything I grew up listening to,” a fusion of global rhythms that mirrors the city’s dynamic spirit.
Performance and Purpose
Even as his momentum builds, with performances across New York City and a growing fanbase, Timi Dre remains grounded. He views music not as a career, but as a passion. “Before I even became a career, I still saw it the same way I did when I was 15, just enjoying what I create and putting it out for people to listen to.”
Preparing for SOB’s
Timi Dre is preparing for his upcoming show at SOB’s on April 22nd, a significant milestone on one of New York City’s most iconic stages. He’s dedicated himself to a rigorous 30-day fitness routine, running two miles daily and hitting the gym, to ensure he’s both musically and physically prepared.
When asked to describe his music, Timi Dre says: “Fun, but soulful. As much as I can make you dance, there’s a groove to it. That’s the African part of it. You can tell how soulful I am as a person through my music.” He is particularly excited to perform “Saved My Life,” a song dedicated to his mother, who will be in attendance.
Timi Dre’s performance at SOB’s promises to be more than just a concert; it’s a culmination of his journey, shaped by his roots, his city, and the people who have supported him. He confidently predicts, “It’s going to be one of the greatest shows to happen.” You can follow Timi Dre on Instagram @timi_dre and purchase tickets to his show at SOB’s on April 22nd.
