A violent altercation took place in Pattaya, Thailand, involving two British tourists and a 44-year-old German man outside The Godfather Bar.

Incident Details

The attack occurred around 2 am on Wednesday morning in the Soi Buakhao entertainment district. The British men allegedly initiated the assault after making provocative remarks about the United Kingdom’s role in World War II, escalating a drunken argument into physical violence.

The Assault

Witnesses reported the two men kicking and punching the German tourist, identified as Marcello, causing him to fall to the ground. Marcello’s girlfriend, May Srinateetundorn, attempted to intervene but was also subjected to abuse, including being spat upon.

Pre-existing Conditions and Witness Account

Marcello has pre-existing health conditions, including an enlarged heart and lung fibrosis, making him physically vulnerable. May stated the British men appeared to be under the influence of drugs and exhibited erratic behavior before the confrontation. She had urged Marcello to avoid them, fearing a conflict.

Investigation and Aftermath

The British men fled the scene before police arrived. The couple is seeking CCTV footage from the bar to support a formal police complaint, but the cameras were reportedly not functioning at the time of the incident. Marcello’s phone was also damaged during the attack.

Police Response

The Pattaya City Police Station has confirmed an investigation is underway, but no formal complaints have been filed as of today. Initially, police reportedly advised the couple to “let it go,” which has added to their frustration.

Pattaya's Tourism Challenges

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about safety and crime in Pattaya, a city striving to shed its reputation as ‘Sin City’ and attract more family-oriented tourism. Despite efforts to improve safety through increased lighting and CCTV installation, the city continues to face challenges related to alcohol consumption and the sex industry.
