Hill Country College Preparatory Shooting Details Emerge

New details have been released following the Monday morning shooting at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in San Antonio, Texas. A teacher was wounded by a 15-year-old student who subsequently died by suicide.

Firearm Source Confirmed

Officials have confirmed the firearm used in the incident was a .357 revolver belonging to the student’s grandfather. The gun was taken from the student’s home and brought onto the school campus.

Potential Legal Ramifications

Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds stated the firearm was accessible within the residence. He added that individuals who leave firearms unsecured and accessible to minors could face legal consequences.

Security Concerns and School Response

Investigators revealed that a School Resource Officer (SRO) was not present on campus at the time of the shooting. This was despite a pre-existing agreement with the Bulverde Police Department to provide SRO coverage.

Shooting Location and Timing

The shooting occurred in a second-floor classroom early Monday morning. Fortunately, most students were in the cafeteria at the time, which officials believe limited the potential for further injuries.

Student Reunification and School Closure

The school was placed on lockdown shortly after 8:30 a.m. Students were transported to a nearby middle school for reunification with their families. Long lines of parents, some praying, waited to be reunited with their children.
