Texas A&M football has secured the No. 1 position in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings for the 2027 cycle. This achievement is highlighted by the commitment of five-star recruit Zyron Forstall, a highly sought-after defensive player.
Forstall Chooses the Aggies
Forstall, a 6-foot-4, 235-pound edge rusher from IMG Academy, selected Texas A&M over several prominent programs, including Alabama, USC, Notre Dame, and Miami. He is currently ranked as the No. 16 overall prospect and the No. 2 edge rusher in the 2027 class.
A Defensive Focus
The Aggies now have a total of 11 commitments for the 2027 class, with a significant emphasis on defense. Seven of the eleven pledges are defensive players. This defensive focus is led by Forstall and five-star safety Kamarui Dorsey, ranked No. 19 overall.
Building a Top Class
Head coach Mike Elko is assembling a class that currently matches the size of the 2022 cycle, aiming to avoid similar challenges. Forstall expressed his enthusiasm for the Aggies’ defensive schemes, stating, “I feel like I fit perfectly in Texas A&M’s defense. We went over a few defensive schemes that I really feel like I can play in that defense and dominate. It’s an SEC school, and it’s one of my dreams to play in the SEC.”
Key Defensive Recruits
- Kamarui Dorsey: Five-star safety, No. 19 overall
- Raylaun Henry: Four-star cornerback, No. 29 recruit
- JayQuan Snell: Four-star safety, No. 42 recruit
- Hakim Frampton: Cornerback from San Antonio Brandeis
National Reach and Blue-Chip Ratio
Texas A&M’s 11 commitments boast a 91% blue-chip ratio, the highest in the SEC. The program has successfully recruited talent from multiple states, including California, Georgia, Maryland, and Florida. They also secured Forstall over in-state options like LSU and Florida State.
The Aggies utilized spring visits to gain an edge over competitors like Oklahoma and Ohio State in the national rankings. The team will hold its annual Maroon & White spring game on Saturday, April 18, at 2 p.m. ET at Kyle Field. These rankings are subject to change as the recruiting cycle progresses.
