Derrian Ford, Temple University’s leading scorer, has declared for the 2026 NBA draft. The 6-foot-3 combo guard completed his collegiate career this past season with the Owls after four years at three different schools.

Ford’s Collegiate Journey

Ford averaged 18.1 points during his single season at Temple, marking the highest scoring average of his college career. He surpassed 1,000 career points, recorded 14 games with 20 or more points, and finished fourth in the American Athletic Conference in points per game.

A Dream Pursued

“My dream has always been to put myself in a position to help provide for and take care of my family to the best of my ability,” Ford wrote in a statement. “Basketball is something l’ve dedicated so much time, effort, and passion to, and I know my journey is far from over.”

Early Career and Transfer Path

Despite being out of college eligibility, Ford is considered an under-the-radar prospect with the potential to contribute as a complementary player. Originally a four-star recruit out of high school in Magnolia, Arkansas, Ford began his college career at Arkansas under coach Eric Musselman.

He then transferred to Arkansas State, where he spent two seasons under Bryan Hodgson, now the head coach at Providence. At Arkansas State, he averaged 10.4 points as a sophomore and 8 points as a junior, playing alongside current South Florida standout and American Player/Defensive Player of the Year, Izaiyah Nelson.

Potential Next Steps

While Ford may go undrafted on June 25-26, he could pursue opportunities in the NBA G League. Former Temple forward Steve Settle III currently averages 7.1 points for the Sioux Falls Skyforce, a Miami Heat affiliate, and guard Jamal Mashburn Jr. averages 6.3 points for the Long Island Nets, a Brooklyn Nets affiliate.

Temple has not had a player selected in the NBA draft since Lavoy Allen was picked in the second round in 2011 by the Philadelphia 76ers.
