Steuben County, New York, has issued a travel advisory as the region experiences significant rainfall and resulting flash floods. The Steuben County Office of Emergency Services is recommending residents postpone all non-essential travel in multiple towns.
Affected Areas and Road Closures
The following towns are currently under the travel advisory: Dansville, Fremont, Cohocton, Avoca, Wheeler, Prattsburgh, Urbana, Pulteney, Wayne, and Wayland. Specific road closures include County Route 50 between Ward Rd. and Lander Rd., and County Route 122 between Porter St. and Fairgrounds Rd.
Safety Precautions for Anglers
The county is also issuing a warning to those who enjoy fishing. Residents are advised to avoid areas with strong currents or high water levels. Officials urge caution regarding unstable riverbanks and potential debris in waterways. Wearing a flotation device while in the water is strongly recommended.
