A Stark County Grand Jury has formally indicted the man facing charges for the stabbing of a woman in a Jackson Township parking lot. The same suspect is also accused of initiating a vehicle pursuit involving Portage County Sheriff deputies following the assault.
Details of the Stark County Incident
The violent incident occurred in the Belden Village area, specifically in the 5100 block of Dressler Rd. NW. Jackson Township police reported that the stabbing took place shortly before 8:00 a.m. on February 17.
Victim Status and Initial Response
Jackson Township Police Chief Mark Brink confirmed that the injured woman was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital. Her wounds were initially considered to be life-threatening.
Following the attack, police gathered information regarding the alleged assailant. A statewide BOLO (Be On The Look Out) alert was immediately issued for the suspect.
The Subsequent Police Pursuit
Shortly after the BOLO was broadcast, deputies from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office successfully located the suspect’s vehicle. The vehicle was spotted near the intersection of Route 225 and Tallmadge Road.
The ensuing chase concluded when the suspect, identified as Card, crashed his vehicle. According to Chief Brink, the pursuit ended after Card collided with a telephone pole, a tree, and a residence located at 5710 on Route 225.
Motive Remains Undetermined
Chief Brink stated that authorities believe the suspect, Card, and the victim were involved in a relationship. At this time, law enforcement has not determined a specific motive for the stabbing.
