A number of key European allies have recently imposed restrictions on military movements associated with the ongoing conflict involving Iran. These actions include the closure of airspace and the denial of access to crucial military bases for US aircraft.

Spain Closes Airspace and Denies Base Access
Spain has firmly closed its airspace to aircraft involved in the Iran war. Furthermore, the nation denied the use of the jointly operated Rota and Morón military bases for actions related to the conflict.
Defense Minister Margarita Robles stated clearly that these restrictions were communicated to American forces from the outset. "Therefore, neither the bases are authorized, nor, of course, is the use of Spanish airspace authorized for any actions related to the war in Iran," she confirmed.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez had called for an end to the conflict. He argued that responding to one illegal act with another is the precursor to major global disasters.
France Refuses Overflights for Military Supplies
President Donald Trump criticized France, labeling the country as "VERY UNHELPFUL" on Truth Social. This followed reports that France refused overflights for planes transporting military supplies destined for Israel.
Reuters cited two sources and a Western diplomat confirming France prevented Israel from using its airspace for weapons transport related to the war. This refusal reportedly occurred over the weekend and marked the first such denial since the conflict began.
Italy Denies Landing at Sicilian Base
Italy also took action by denying landing rights at a significant base located in Sicily. Defense Minister Guido Crosetto made the decision after flight plans were submitted while the aircraft were already in transit.
The Italian military did not authorize these specific flight plans. However, this action does not constitute a complete closure of Italian airspace to all US military aircraft.
US Response to Access Denials
Despite these setbacks, President Trump suggested the United States military was still succeeding in its objectives. He claimed the "United States military is meeting or surpassing all of its goals under Operation Epic Fury" without assistance from Spain or others.
A spokesperson for the Pentagon commented on routine operations. They noted that U.S. European Command regularly hosts transient US military aircraft according to established agreements with allied partners regarding access and basing rights.
