Governor Shapiro Announces Record Fundraising Total
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s reelection campaign has reported raising more than $10 million in the first three months of 2026. This total surpasses previous fundraising benchmarks for a Pennsylvania gubernatorial race at this stage, more than doubling the prior record.
Financial Strength and Broad Support
A top Shapiro campaign official stated the substantial fundraising haul leaves the campaign in a strong financial position. The campaign ended 2025 with over $30 million in cash on hand, providing a solid foundation for the upcoming election cycle.
Contributions from Across the Nation
The contributions originated from all 67 counties within Pennsylvania and spanned all 50 states. This widespread support, as described by a senior aide, demonstrates a growing national donor network for Governor Shapiro.
Book Tour and Potential Presidential Aspirations
Governor Shapiro’s book, Where We Keep the Light, was released in January, followed by a nationwide book tour. The tour included appearances on national programs such as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, raising his profile on a national stage.
Support for Downballot Races
Shapiro is also contributing financially to state party efforts. He is donating $250,000 to the state party to support downballot races, particularly focusing on three Republican-held battleground seats.
Looking Ahead to the Election
Governor Shapiro is expected to face Republican state Treasurer Stacy Garrity in the November general election as he seeks a second term. Pennsylvania’s primary election is scheduled for May 19.
Focus on Midterm Elections
While considered a potential 2028 Democratic presidential contender, and previously discussed as a possible running mate for Kamala Harris in 2024, Shapiro has stated he will not make a decision about a presidential run until after the midterm elections. He emphasized the importance of the midterms during a book tour stop in Erie, Pennsylvania, stating, “The only thing I’m focused on…is having a national referendum in these midterms.”
