Seattle businessman's encounter with unlicensed fruit vendor sparks controversy A confrontation between a businessman and an unlicensed fruit vendor on Seattle's waterfront has sparked controversy and led to a discussion about enforcement action against unlicensed vendors in the city. A confrontation on Seattle's waterfront drew online backlash after Nathan Bainbridge, co-owner of Premier Meat Pies in Renton, questioned a fruit vendor's permits and threw some of his merchandise into the trash. Bainbridge claimed he was asking about a health department permit but the vendor said he actually has his paperwork in order and was operating a permitted fruit cart. A public health investigation is underway to determine whether the vendor was operating the stand legally. KIRO News host Jake Skorheim criticized Bainbridge's handling of the vendor's property and questioned the response directed at his business saying 'they don't have the appetite to do it'.Skorheim suggested that the city is not taking enforcement action against unlicensed vendors because they are not following the rules and are cutting into the profits of businesses that do. He called for enforcement to crack down on unlicensed vendors and protect businesses that follow the rules. This comes as Pierce County is considering a crackdown on unpermitted food vendors with some hosts saying the proposal protects public health.
