Discovery in East San Jose
San Jose police are investigating a suspicious death after discovering decomposed human remains inside a vehicle on March 21, 2026. Officers responded to a call regarding a suspicious circumstance near the intersection of Francis Drive and McKee Road in East San Jose at approximately 7 a.m.
Upon arrival, authorities confirmed the presence of a severely decomposed body inside the vehicle. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office has taken custody of the remains to conduct an identification process.
Connection to Missing Resident
The vehicle, a red 2010 two-door Nissan Frontier, is registered to 40-year-old San Jose resident Aldama Refugio Jr. Mr. Refugio has been reported missing since the beginning of 2026, and police are currently working to confirm if the remains belong to him.
While the cause of death has not yet been determined, the San Jose Police Department has initiated a homicide investigation as a matter of protocol. Officials have stated that they believe foul play may be involved in the case.
Public Assistance Requested
Detectives are actively seeking information from the public to help clarify the circumstances surrounding the death and the connection to the missing man. Authorities have released photographs of both Mr. Refugio and his vehicle to assist in the investigation.
