Bexar County and the City of San Antonio are moving forward with a suite of flood prevention projects ,including a $21 million NextGen warning system, drainage repairs, and infrastructure upgrades.
The June 12,2025 flood stands as one of the deadliest weather events in recent San Antonio history, with eleven individuals swept away near the intersection of Loop 410 and Perrin Beitel when fast-moving water surged into the Beitel Creek channel and carried vehicles off the roadway.
The victims in that area inclued Carlos Valdez III, 67; Victor Manuel Macias Castro, 28; Cristine Gonzalez, 29; Josue Pinadelatorre, 28; Brett Riley, 63 ; and Esther Chung, 77.

The planned network of flood sensors is intended to warn drivers before they attempt to cross water-covered roads.

The City of San Antonio has incluuded $5 million in its fiscal year 2026 budget to repair the drainage channel.

Public Works officials detailed that the repairs will involve sealing damaged or missing concrete wall panels to curb erosion and prevent further deterioration while permanent designs are finalized.
