The former world No 1 came up short in the women's singles final at Flushing Meadows, falling to a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 defeat to rival Elena Rybakina. The Belarusian star was seen lashing out and smashing her racket after Rybakina secured victory, before later taking her frustrations out on a cameraman. As broadcast cameras turned to her, Sabalenka rolled her eyes and threw her arms out before telling the camera operator to f*** off.She is now recharging ahead of a return to competition, jetting off to Greece and sharing plenty of snaps from her break on social media. The photos, alongside the caption rest & reset in Greece, included the bikini-clad star posing in the sun and relaxing with her dog, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Ash.In one snap, she is seen in a red bikini, lying on a sun lounger reading Jason Stacey's The Pressure Code, a book about how elite performers align various pressures to reach the top. She could also be seen enjoying some Greek food, particularly a Greek salad and pancakes, while also taking a dip in the water and posing with Frangulis, who she met in 2024.The couple became engaged at Indian Wells earlier this year. It appears the 28-year-old has been making the most of the time to re-charge, after the final incident swiftly went viral on social media as fans lamented the behaviour from the former US Open champion.Taking to X, one fan wrote that no one handles a loss worse than Sabalenka, claiming she made herself a spectacle again by smashing a racket, yelling at a cameraman and barely clapping for Rybakina, calling it so ridiculous. Similarly, another wrote that while recognising her greatness and her achievements, Sabalenka is their least favourite athlete on the planet right now, citing a horrible attitude and zero sportsmanship, adding that she never credits her opponents after a loss.Meanwhile, another user on X added that Sabalenka is an absolute disgrace and the biggest sore loser in tennis, with no grace, decorum or respect for her opponent or the fans watching. Another simply wrote that she is always classless and pathetic.Speaking after the defeat, which put an abrupt end to her dreams of securing a three-peat of the US Open title, Sabalenka said she was obviously not really happy with the level she played, but credited Rybakina's serving as incredible. She explained that it is really tough to control your emotions when you lose in the final of the Grand Slam and when you were trying to go for a three-peat.She added that she just wanted to let it go, because if she would hold it inside, right now or here or there on the court, she would not be able to say a word or she would just go not really nice over there. The 28-year-old lost her No 1 spot earlier this month but has been recovering ahead of returning to action soon.No date has been announced for her return to the court. Her holiday in Greece appears to be part of that process, as she enjoys time with her fiance and dog before stepping back onto the tour.
