Alleged Attempted Harm to Child and Mother
A mother in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, reportedly discovered her roommate attempting to push her 5-year-old son out of a third-story window. The incident occurred while the mother, Karen Garcia, was running an errand.
Details of the Incident
Garcia had left her two sons, ages 5 and 11, in the care of 40-year-old Vira Zabudko. Upon returning home, Garcia allegedly found Zabudko trying to force the younger child out the window, according to a criminal complaint.
Escalation and Assault
A fight reportedly broke out between Garcia and Zabudko. Following the altercation, Zabudko allegedly instructed the 5-year-old to shower “to wash the sins out because he is dirty.”
Zabudko then allegedly forced Garcia into the shower with the child and attempted to submerge their heads in an overflowing bathtub.
Statements from Authorities
Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele expressed disbelief at the alleged motivations. “I don’t know of any religion that would reasonably think throwing a child out of a window or drowning a child was going to wash anyone's sins,” Aubele stated.
Successful Escape and Potential Impact on Charges
Garcia and her children were able to escape unharmed. Authorities indicated that the mother’s intervention and the lack of injuries may influence the severity of the charges against Zabudko. “We’re very happy that mom was in the area, was able to become involved, and protect the children,” Aubele said.
