Robert Patrick on Hollywood and Family Life
Actor Robert Patrick has shared his preference for a life centered around family, faith, and work, rather than the typical Hollywood scene. He recently discussed his approach to the industry and his upcoming projects in an interview with Fox News Digital.
Finding Fulfillment Outside the Spotlight
Patrick, whose latest film, the indie-horror Mermaid, premieres on April 8, explained that choosing to distance himself from Hollywood events has been beneficial. “I can’t speak for Hollywood. I really can’t,” he stated. “I’m where I’m at in Hollywood and there are a lot of things that I don’t participate in.” He expressed gratitude for the acting opportunities he receives, emphasizing his love for the craft.
'Mermaid': A Unique Horror Project
A Fresh Take on a Classic Tale
Patrick’s latest role is in Mermaid, a film centered on a Florida man struggling with addiction who encounters a wounded mermaid. He was drawn to the project because of its originality. “Everybody’s saying that there’s no new ideas coming out of Hollywood,” Patrick noted. “And this is certainly a new idea.”
The film was also appealing due to the timing of the writers' and actors' strikes, offering a rare opportunity for work on a lower-budget independent production. He described the story as a “fresh idea” and a “unique idea on a classic story,” highlighting the bizarre and captivating nature of the mermaid character and the unique setting of Florida.
Faith, Family, and a Lasting Marriage
Patrick identifies as a devout Episcopalian and attends church every Sunday. He openly admits he prefers a quiet life at home with his wife and dogs, avoiding Hollywood parties and premieres. “I just rather sit at home, be with my wife and my dogs,” he said. “Maybe that’s all working in my favor.”
The Key to a 30+ Year Marriage
The Terminator 2: Judgment Day star attributes his successful, three-decade marriage to his wife, Barbara Patrick, to their strong friendship. “My wife is just great. She’s the one for me and I love her dearly,” he shared. He emphasized their mutual trust, respect, and unwavering support for each other, noting they married while filming T2.
Robert and Barbara Patrick married in 1990 and share two children. He described Barbara as his soulmate, someone with whom he feels completely secure and content. Mermaid also stars Johnny Pemberton, Avery Potemri, and Kevin Dunn.
