The Anacostia River's $1.5 million transparency push

The Anacostia Riverkeeper and Potomac Riverkeeper Network have launched a groundbreaking initiative to monitor the water quality of the Anacostia and Potomac rivers, with a focus on transparency and community engagement.

The project, announced on Wednesday, uses specialized sensors called 'YSI EXO2s sonde' to measure water quality parameters at various locations along both rivers.

These solar-powered devices require minimal maintenance and transmit data through a cellular network to a visual data platform called 'Enviromapper'. The data is then incorporated onto the Reservoir Center's online dashboard, with readings taken every 15 minutes.

The center aims to employ this water quality dashboard as a tool for local government transparency, enabling community members to easily verify the water quality in the rivers.
