Democratic Representative Ro Khanna has issued a direct challenge to King Charles III regarding his planned visit to the United States next month. Khanna, who championed the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, is urging the British monarch to meet with survivors of the convicted sex offender while in the U.S.
King Charles's Upcoming U.S. Address and the Survivors' Request
King Charles is scheduled to address a joint session of the U.S. Congress in April. However, Rep. Khanna wants the focus to include a private meeting between the King and the women who have accused Epstein of abuse.
The survivors have been actively seeking accountability in the U.S. Their efforts, coupled with the gradual release of sealed documents, have recently led to the downfall of several prominent figures.
A Plea for Transparency and Dialogue
In a formal letter, Khanna stated his request clearly. "As author of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, I respectfully ask that you privately meet with survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s and Ghislaine Maxwell’s abuse," Khanna wrote.
The purpose of the meeting, according to Khanna, would allow survivors to speak directly about institutional failures. He emphasized that the survivors themselves are demanding this engagement.
Spillover Effects in the United Kingdom
Khanna acknowledged that the demand for answers concerning Epstein extends significantly into the UK. There is increasing scrutiny over the convicted sex offender’s activities there and whether UK public institutions provided protection.
The Congressman noted the King’s previous statements, writing, “Your call for a ‘full, fair and proper’ investigation, and for the law to take its course, recognizes the seriousness of these concerns.”
Recent Scandals Involving Royal Family and Officials
This request follows recent turbulence involving members of the British establishment linked to Epstein. Last month, King Charles’s brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
Andrew is reportedly being investigated for allegedly sharing confidential information with Epstein while serving as a UK trade envoy. King Charles had previously stripped his brother of his titles and honors in October amid rising criticism over these ties.
Furthermore, former UK Ambassador to the U.S., Lord Peter Mandelson, was dismissed in September 2025 due to his close association with Epstein. This incident caused turmoil at 10 Downing Street.
Khanna noted the lack of cooperation from these figures. "Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor did not respond,” Khanna stated. “Peter Mandelson was also asked to appear before the Oversight Committee... He declined to cooperate, citing the existence of a criminal investigation.”
The Path to Accountability
Khanna argued that a meeting with the survivors would be productive. It would offer a chance to identify any additional information British institutions might possess regarding Epstein and Maxwell’s network in the UK.
The Congressman concluded that such an action would guarantee survivors are heard directly. It would also ensure these serious matters are addressed with “transparency, seriousness, and accountability.”
King Charles and Queen Camilla are scheduled for a state visit at the end of April, invited by President Donald Trump to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American Independence. President Trump and his administration have faced intense criticism over their handling of the Epstein files and allegations of concealing the President's own relationship with the offender.
