KPBS will air a special episode of “About San Diego” dedicated to the memory of San Diego television host Johnny Downs. The program will be available to stream with KPBS+ now and will broadcast on KPBS TV on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 8 p.m.

Exploring San Diego History

This episode delves into the life of Lymon Judson Gage and his significance to San Diego’s history. Viewers will also be taken on a tour of famous gravesites located throughout San Diego County.

Notable Gravesites

Ken Kramer visits the gravesite of Billy Vaughn, a renowned orchestra leader, and his wife Marion. They are buried at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido, California.

Interactive Segments & KPBS+ Features

“About San Diego” will also include interactive segments such as a quiz to test viewers’ knowledge of local history, as well as the popular “Guess the Year” game.

Jen, a web producer at KPBS since 2000, is responsible for program promotion and the KPBS community calendar. Originally from Las Vegas, she is a graduate of UNLV.
