Acclaimed actress Regina Hall, known for her roles in various films, disclosed that she once seriously explored the path of becoming a nun. The star of the film “One Battle After Another” revealed this during an appearance on Craig Melvin’s “Glass Half Full” video podcast on March 31.
A Spiritual Detour: Considering the Convent
Hall explained to Melvin that she had taken an “initial step” toward religious life due to what she described as an “incredible romance” with God. However, her plans were ultimately halted by institutional requirements.
Age Restrictions and Specifications
The actress noted that she was slightly too old to meet the entry criteria for the order she was considering. “I was too seasoned,” Hall stated, mentioning that the age limit was likely around 39, and she was “a little north of that.”
She further elaborated that different religious orders have varying specifications for entry. These requirements can include age limits, past relationship history, or family connections. Hall compared the initial steps of this pursuit to a major life commitment.
“I feel like I went ring shopping, you know what I mean? Getting engaged is a big deal, but is it? Marriage is probably a big deal,” she said.
The Foundation of Faith
Craig Melvin pressed Hall on the significance of this period, which she acknowledged was substantial. Hall emphasized that the time leading up to her contemplation of the vocation was the most significant part.
The "Incredible Romance" with God
Hall described this phase of her life as a period defined by deep spiritual connection. “It was just an incredible, it was an incredible time of meditation, of, like, prayer, of quiet. It was just an incredible, peaceful time,” she recalled.
The actress, who is now 55, linked this surge in faith to a personal event that occurred a few years prior. She stated that a difficult breakup she experienced was ultimately worth the pain because of what followed.
“I could see the beauty in, I don’t know. I could all the beauty in the defined orchestration of things,” Hall reflected. She now views her relationship with God as a long-term commitment.
A Long-Term Partnership
Melvin joked that Hall and God were now like a couple married for 40 years, finishing each other’s sentences. Hall agreed with the sentiment of a lasting bond, though she admitted it involves everyday realities.
“But I’m also mad that, you know, he left the toothpaste open,” Hall humorously admitted. She concluded that while not every moment is perfect, she is committed to the relationship: “It’s like all this little stuff... I’m not going anywhere.”
