Puka Nacua Enters Rehab Center
Los Angeles Rams all-pro wide receiver Puka Nacua has voluntarily entered a rehabilitation center amid recent off-field concerns. The decision comes after accusations of assault and battery, as well as allegations of an antisemitic remark.
Assault and Battery Allegations
A woman, identified as Madison Atiabi, alleges that Nacua bit her on the shoulder on New Year’s Eve, leaving teeth marks. She also claims he bit a friend’s thumb during the same incident, which occurred while they were in a van together. Atiabi and her attorney, Joseph Kar, further allege that Nacua made an antisemitic exclamation that caused her emotional distress in Century City.
Legal Representation Responds
Levi McCathern, Nacua’s attorney, strongly denies the antisemitic statement claim and characterizes the bites as “horseplay.” He stated to the New York Post, “He was in there a substantial period of time before any of these allegations broke with Madison, and he’s scheduled to be there for a while longer.” McCathern also described the incident as a “shakedown attempt” and said the bite left only a “temporary mark,” according to TMZ.
Prior Apology for Antisemitic Act
This is not the first time Nacua has addressed concerns regarding potentially antisemitic behavior. Last year, he apologized for performing an act perceived as antisemitic during a YouTube stream with Adin Ross.
The YouTube Incident
During the stream, Ross, who is Jewish, instructed Nacua to spike the ball, flex, and rub his hands together – a gesture Ross referred to as his own “dance” or “emote.” However, many viewers believed the celebration perpetuated a harmful anti-Jewish stereotype, leading to significant backlash and Nacua’s subsequent apology.
Nacua's Statement and Treatment
According to McCathern, “The combination of stories ya’ll have run is certainly a contributing factor,” to Nacua’s decision to seek treatment. He added that Nacua aims to “improve his overall behavior in every aspect of his life that he can do it.”
On-Field Performance
Last season, Nacua achieved career highs with 129 receptions for 1,715 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has quickly become a key player for the Los Angeles Rams.
