PVH Boosts Growth with Travis Kelce & 'Love Story'
PVH Corp. is strategically capitalizing on current pop culture trends to fuel growth, as revealed in their latest earnings report released late Tuesday. The company reported better-than-expected sales and operating margins.
Pop Culture Impact on Sales
CEO Stefan Larsson highlighted the company’s success in aligning its brands with popular culture. A key driver has been the Hulu show “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette,” which has significantly boosted interest in the Calvin Klein brand.
“It’s almost impossible to have a conversation about Calvin right now without ‘Love Story,’” Larsson stated during the quarterly call with analysts. He added that over 40 million people have watched the show, making it Hulu’s most streamed program ever.
Calvin Klein and 'Love Story' Synergy
The increased visibility from “Love Story” is translating into positive results for Calvin Klein. The company is seeing increased e-commerce traffic and direct-to-consumer sales. Consumers are particularly interested in iconic Calvin Klein products, such as underwear and the ’90s denim fit.
“When something like ‘Love Story’ hits, it’s just a really nice sync up with where we are with the brand,” Larsson explained. “So it also shows the power of the brand.”
Travis Kelce and Tommy Hilfiger Collaboration
In addition to the success with “Love Story,” PVH is also benefiting from a new collaboration with Travis Kelce as a global brand ambassador and creative collaborator for Tommy Hilfiger.
Larsson emphasized the synergy between Kelce’s popularity and Tommy Hilfiger’s “classic American Cool” DNA. The collaboration will focus on innovation and newness in key categories like outerwear, sweaters, shirts, and knits.
Financial Performance
PVH’s fourth-quarter revenues rose 6 percent to $2.5 billion compared to the same period last year, though this was flat in constant currencies. Operating margins reached 11.7 percent, excluding a 1.70 percentage point impact from tariffs.
Analyst Tom Nikic of Needham believes PVH’s valuation remains low, despite a 9.8 percent stock increase on Wednesday, bringing the company’s market capitalization to $3.68 billion. He suggests that continued success driven by “Love Story” could lead to further positive guidance.
