The Biden Family Welcomes New Companions
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden have expanded their family by adopting two black Labrador-mix puppies. The siblings, named Boo and Scout, have joined the former president’s residence in Delaware.
The adoption news was officially announced on Monday by a Delaware animal welfare organization. The group also shared a heartwarming photograph of the Bidens smiling next to their new puppies and their cat, Willow.
Rescue Origins of Boo and Scout
Boo and Scout were originally rescued from an overcrowded animal shelter located in Tennessee. Prior to their adoption, the puppies were known by the names Linda and Rocky.
Humane Animal Partners (HAP) facilitated the placement after learning the Bidens were seeking two black Labrador retrievers. HAP staff members specifically selected the puppies for the presidential couple.
A Thoughtful Selection Process
Patrick Carroll, CEO of Humane Animal Partners, stated that the team intentionally brought the dogs to HAP. He expressed confidence that the puppies “would be a great fit for the Bidens and their home.”
The adoption process included a trial period where the Bidens fostered the puppies before finalizing the commitment. This careful approach ensured the dogs were well-suited for the family environment.
Transition from White House Pets
The Bidens were previously known for their German shepherds during their time in the White House. This included Major, who was relocated to live with friends after incidents involving bites to Secret Service personnel and White House staff in 2021.
Jill Biden recently confirmed to The Associated Press that they decided not to bring back Major or their other dog, Commander, after leaving the executive residence. The arrival of Boo and Scout marks a new chapter for the family's pets.
