Fatal Crash Follows Police Pursuit in Pomona
Two people died Wednesday night after a police pursuit in Pomona, California, concluded in a collision near Garey Avenue and County Road. The incident began with a domestic violence call and escalated into a high-speed chase.
Domestic Violence Call Initiates Pursuit
Initial Response and Suspect's Actions
Around 9:33 p.m., the Pomona Police Department responded to a domestic violence report in the 400 block of E. Tenth Street. Upon arrival and contact with the victim, the suspect returned to the location in a truck and deliberately collided with a patrol vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Chase and Subsequent Collision
Officers initiated a pursuit of the suspect, traveling southbound on Garey Avenue. The suspect’s vehicle then crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Garey Avenue and County Road.
Fatalities and Arrest
Both the driver and passenger of the vehicle struck by the suspect were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are withholding their identities pending notification of their families.
A firearm and firearm components were discovered inside the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect was found to be driving without a valid driver’s license.
Charges Filed Against Suspect
The suspect was taken into custody and booked on multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon on a Peace Officer, driving under the influence, driving without a valid license, felony evasion, and various firearm-related offenses.
