Tiger Woods Arrested Following Florida Vehicle Crash
Golf superstar Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) last Friday afternoon in Florida. He was subsequently released from jail later that same day. The arrest followed a single-vehicle rollover crash that occurred around 2 p.m.
Details from the Arrest Affidavit
According to the official arrest affidavit obtained by various news organizations, local law enforcement noted several concerning signs upon encountering Woods at the scene. Officers observed that the athlete had "bloodshot and glassy" eyes, and his pupils were described as "extremely dilated."
Furthermore, police reported that Woods exhibited movements described as "lethargic and slow." He was also reportedly "sweating profusely" when officers made contact with him. The 50-year-old athlete is currently dating Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr.
Medication and Sobriety Tests
Woods informed officers that he had not consumed any alcohol prior to the accident. However, he did confirm taking prescription medication earlier that morning. It was noted that the athlete "lives a life of pain," referencing his history of significant leg and back injuries.
While Woods passed a preliminary breathalyzer examination, he reportedly struggled significantly with the standard field sobriety test. He cited previous surgical operations on his back and leg, stemming from an earlier crash, as reasons for his difficulty.
Officials confirmed that Woods declined to submit to a urinalysis test. Consequently, he was formally charged with DUI, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful blood-alcohol test.
Circumstances of the Crash
The incident involved Woods colliding with a truck that was in the process of turning into a driveway on Jupiter Island. Woods admitted to police that he was speeding while simultaneously attempting to check his phone and adjust his radio station when the rollover occurred.
Crucially, neither Tiger Woods nor the driver of the truck sustained any injuries in the collision. This event marks the fourth time Woods has been involved in a motor vehicle accident. Notably, he suffered serious injuries, including a shattered right leg and ankle, in a separate crash in California in February 2021, for which he was not charged.
